About the Founder
After more than 30 years in the pharmaceutical industry, 22 of which he embraced pioneering and championing the alliance management profession, Steve has decided to take his career in another direction. His ambition is to assist companies with creating and improving their alliance management capabilities and increasing the value of their pipeline and product portfolio. As president of his consulting firm, Steve will utilize his considerable experience and distinguishable knowledge whether it is needed to develop his clients’ processes and teams or to actively engage in a particular alliance, acquisition or divestment. Steve has particularly unique alliance management expertise with Chinese and Japanese companies due to his continual interactions and established relationships developed during his alliance and integration management career. He also has a network of select professionals with deep subject matter expertise available to support the firm when projects require additional or specialized support.
Most recently, Steve was Vice President of Alliance and Integration Management (AIM) of AstraZeneca (AZ) responsible for its global late-phase development and commercial alliance and integration management strategy and execution capabilities. Steve established and built AZ’s AIM team to lead the integration of asset acquisitions, transitions for divestments, and management of key late-phase alliances. During his 8-year tenure with AZ in Cambridge UK and the US, he continued to shape AZ’s alliance and integration strategy in line with more diverse and varied externalization deals. Steve’s efforts were successful in further enhancing its alliance and integration management capability to help position AZ externally as the partner of choice. This achievement is demonstrated by the multiple repeat deals with companies such as Grünenthal, Cheplapharm, and Daiichi Sankyo.
Steve’s career in alliance management began at Eli Lilly and Company where he was a founding member of Lilly’s Office of Alliance Management. His role at Lilly expanded as he quickly became an international expert in a relatively new field. As Senior Director of Alliance Management and M&A Integration, Steve was in charge of acquisition integration as well as alliance management for development, commercial and manufacturing alliances. During his 14 years in alliance management at Lilly, he played an integral role in worldwide alliances with BMS, Boehringer Ingelheim and Daiichi Sankyo. Steve’s experience also includes the post-acquisition integration of ImClone Systems, Alnara Pharmaceuticals, and Avid Radiopharmaceuticals.
